Should You Get Invisalign?

 What’s So Great About Invisalign?

Are you thinking about getting Invisalign? This type of orthodontic treatment can help straighten teeth without using standard metal braces.

In the past, metal braces were the only option. Now, custom-made plastic aligners help shift your teeth into the proper position for a healthy looking smile. Patients who had previously declined getting braces are now reconsidering.

What’s The Difference?

Braces are made of metal brackets glued to your teeth – tied together by wires and tiny rubber bands. Nowadays, brackets can more closely resemble your enamel colour and appear discrete. Or you can get them in colour to make a fashion statement with your mouth!

On the other hand, Invisalign is designed to be invisible. Aligner trays are made of comfortable BPA-free transparent plastic. They are worn over your teeth to gently move them into place and are removable for teeth cleaning. Plus, they can let you brush and floss without being in the way.

How Does It Straighten Teeth?

During treatment, you will be supplied with a series of aligners. Every aligner will make minor adjustments to tooth position, a process that is mapped out in advance, specifically for your situation. Once the aligners are placed over the teeth, they gradually cause the teeth to shift from their original position. After approximately two weeks, you will begin using the next set of aligners, which will continue the teeth straightening process.

Pricing

Invisalign pricing can tend to be higher than metal braces and is influenced by the extent of alignment required which determines the length of treatment needed. The average cost, according to the company, is between $3,000 to $8,000 US. The typical cost of regular braces varies widely, but is usually in the range of $2,500 to $6,000 US. Again, the cost varies on a patient case-by-case basis.

What Does Insurance Cover?

Most dental insurance plans cover Invisalign just as they would regular braces provided there is Orthodontic coverage, but check with your insurance provider first to determine the extent of your coverage. If you have Orthodontic coverage, we can request the details of your coverage specific to your treatment needs.
